May 4-6 - Fort Parker State Park

We were originally going to go to Enchanted Rock this weekend, but there was not an opening until the first part of June. NO THANKS!! So we decided on Ft. Parker State Park up in North East Texas between a few miles South of Mexia. The lake itself was a nice sized lake but we did not have a boat to access the lake, so we slept in our "new" van the first night as it was too late to pitch the big tent, and Saturday morning is when the tent was pitched. The kids immediately found other kids to play with which allowed me and Kim to get some things done for the campsite. We visited the fort itself where Cynthis Ann Parker was abducted in 1836 by the Comanche Indians. Kim was very knowledgeable about this subject. She has always wanted to go, but this is one location that she and her family never stayed. The only wildlife we saw were a band of wild pigs and one copperhead. We did road hunt all over the area on every good road we could find, but no snakes until we got back into the park. This would also be a good location for a future ETHS campout, but the snakes are few and far between, probably due to the high pig population. The park had some trails but were not very impressive. This I'm afraid was a one time visit for us.
