Weekly Update ArchiveWeek Ending 05/13/2007 May 11-13, 2007 - First West Texas Trip This being our first trip out West for this year, I decided to take LeAnn Armstrong with us. She is daughter to one of my close friends who passed away in 2002 when she was only 4 ½ yrs. old. We left our house at 7:15 P.M. and arrived at 12:30 A.M. We checked in and LeAnn and I went out to 277 and found absolutely nothing except for cool temps. In the mid 60's. Kim and the kids wanted to crash in the room so stayed behind. Saturday, we went
over to Acuna and enjoyed an outdoor lunch at La Macarena and visited
with Jorge Ramon. We also hooked up with John Tedens and his wife and
did a little shopping and drinking at Crosby's. I took a little nap back
at Motel 6, Kim went shopping, and we were off again. We went to Keith's
shrine at 3.7 miles West of Langtry. LeAnn paid respects to her dad where
his ashes were spread and I am glad to report that everything is intact
and untouched as she left it 1 year ago. The solar lights still work and
shine brightly at night. We herped the first 6 miles of the Langrty/Pandale dirt road. We met one herper from San Antonio, Nathan (boomslang2050) and then headed West toward Pumpville. We turned back and herped on and off all the way to Comstock. We decided to go up Juno road which is rare for me to do anymore. The road was closed to the major public because of recent flooding. We saw a porcupine and almost hit a doe. This is all we saw. We arrived back at Motel 6 in Del Rio at 2:00 a.m. It was so bad, we didn't even find a rubber alterna this year. I dropped my digital camera before I left on this trip, and my battery died on my 8mm video camera so I have absolutely no pictures of this trip. It was a sad state of affairs to say the least. My second trip will be on Memorial Day weekend! See you then. Until that time, HAPPY HERPING as always! Return to Weekly Updates |
