June 2, 2007 - Roundtop, Texas

Me, Kim, and the kids all went to a new location this weekend. I actually went some place I had never been. I drove up to Roundtop, Texas -- West of Brenham -- and searched for some copperheads that are "terrorizing" the land owners. This made for a fun little family outing. I got there close to 3 PM, but by this time, the temperatures were very warm...actually, I would consider it HOT! There was approximately 15 acres of beautiful property to roam, but it was obvious that I would not be finding copperheads in the wide open fields. My only chance was to search around the foliage of the pond and near the greenery around the houses. After the first round of finding nothing, I waited until it cooled down. I drove the roads around the property to check things out, not once seeing a snake laying out. When it became cooler, I made another round but concentrated around the foundation of the house. I am positive that this is where the snakes are holing up. Unfortunately, I cannot crawl under the house to search so I have to rely on them coming out. Nothing ever did, so I am going to make a return trip sometime in the near future, and closer to the evening since copperheads are nocturnal for the most part. I have posted some of the pictures from this adventure. Sorry, there are no snakes this time, except for the speckled king I released to take care of the copperhead problem. Hopefully this coming weekend, I will catch many when I am out West! So long.
