Week Ending 03/18/06

It's that time of year again, and we are out of hibernation! We took out first family outing this weekend and stretched out legs a bit. We hit the old abandoned pig farm again. Our friendly barn owl was not at home this time, so we could get no pictures or film of him flying out. Maybe next time. The fire ants and bull nettle were out in full force, however, the ants were somewhat held at bay because the temperature was in the low 70's with the wind blowing. There were 4 fairly large Texas Rats out there this time but not much else. One thing I noticed this year that I have not in the past is the high numbers of black widow spiders, some of a very large size. I was able to escape being stung by ants and the bull nettle, so all was well in Herp land. You can always expect the ol' Texas Rat to be at the pig farm.
