Week Ending 07/04/2007

As usual (when we are in town) we went to the Oakdale Ranch a few miles Northwest of Brenham. We got a late start as it was just hard to get motivated on what was a very rainy day in Houston. We were contemplating not going but just because it’s raining in Houston, and the radar shows more is on the way to where you are going, does not mean it will in fact rain. We decided to go for it, and took off around 1 PM or so. It rained a good way until we hit Washington County. The rain slacked off a bit, then there was none, just 100% cloud cover. We did arrive later than usual but we were like the second set of non-family members to show up. The rain scared a lot of people and that was obvious. However, later on, people finally began to show up. It did not rain even once while we were there. The people who did not show really missed out on the great BBQ etc, that is always served there. The kids had a great time, and so did Kim and I. I took the Reticulated Python out for a nice stretch and stroll. All the kids as well as some adults handled the tame reptile.

As always, they had the egg tossing contest as well as the bull chip contest. I won neither. In fact, for only the second time, the egg blew up in MY hand! We did miss our good friends Lars and Ulla from Sweden who went with us last year. The great thing about that is we plan to visit them in Sweden next Summer for the first time. This will be our first big INTERNATIONAL trip ever! Well, not including Belize of course.

We shot fireworks without worrying about starting grass fires as it is EXTREMELY wet in the entire state of Texas, so we all had a blast!

Until next year...
