About Kimberly...

My name is Kimberly Howell and I have always loved all animals. My parents weren't "animal people" and it was all I could do to persuade them to let me have that cat, dog, hamster, bird, goldfish etc. My family would take long summer vacations in our camper and my parents exposed my brother, Jeff, and I to America's wildlife, landscape and national treasures. We would go fossil hunting, hike mountain trails, swim in rivers and creeks, identify birds, reptiles, trees and enjoy family stories and games. Now that I am married with two children of my own, I want to continue this tradition.

When I got out on my own, I filled my apartment with my birds and a fish tank. I went by myself to local Houston nature trails and bayous just to get away from my city existence and the rat race. My father and I would go birdwatching anywhere we could. I knew Wayne was into snakes and the outdoors and when we discovered that we had a love of animals and nature in common, our love grew and we began dating in 1991 and married in the spring of 1994.

The animal variety and population in my tiny apartment began to explode when Wayne and I started dating. First came the box turtles, then various lizards (an iguana, spiny lizard, alligator lizard, my first leopard gecko to name a few), a boa constrictor, fancy mice in addition to my birds and fish. The keeping of reptiles and amphibians, know as herpetoculture, became an all consuming passion and hobby. I still loved my birds, but reptiles soon took over my interest completely.

Wayne and I became involved with reptile rescue a short time after we were married. Through this we have met many interesting people, had some great adventures and acquired many animals. We work with the East Texas Herpetological Society, Texas Wildlife Rehabilitation Coalition, Houston SPCA, Houston Police Department, Harris County Sheriff, local veterinarians and individuals needing either a reptile (usually a snake, but sometimes escaped exotic lizards) removed or placed up for adoption.

This website is my outlet to showcase my current animals and our family's adventures. Wayne and I are always on the road. Either going to reptile shows, going out to West Texas to look for the elusive Gray-Banded Kingsnake, having "Sunday Safari's to local areas to picnic and go herping, or to some reptile call. We went to Belize, Central America on our honeymoon and again in 1998. Someday, maybe we will get to Australia. This is our ultimate dream destination.

My other interests are reading (science fiction and biographies are my favorites), painting with watercolors and acrylics, Renaissance Festival and watching Discovery Channel and Animal Planet. I don't care what anybody says, Steve and Terri Irwin are cool!
