Weekly Update ArchiveWeek Ending 03/18/05 It's time to get back in the saddle again. The "weekly" updates have suffered for several months now, but I am back so here we go. I enjoyed visiting my bud, Scott Lacina, over in Bandera, Texas in November and December. He was gracious enough to let me hunt on his property. This allowed me to get my first two white-tail deer in one day. Since I was not paying for a lease, I was happy to cull out what deer he did not want around, such as the spike. I also could not pass up on the fat doe 30 minutes later. I would come back to pick the meat up a few weeks later, and I was able to bag an Axis deer this time. I will have to say I enjoyed the hunting but it still takes second place to herpin! I really enjoyed the brief snow we had on December 24. Ever since I have lived in Houston it has never snowed so close to Christmas. The snow made me forget all about what I really enjoy Snake Hunting. Now that Spring is basically here, I felt I better get busy and do some updating so I don't lose my loyal Wayne's World fans that like to read the updates and check out the pics. I made my first local trip to the pig farm on February 19th. I caught and released 5 Texas Rats, 1 Southern Copperhead, and 1 Eastern Coachwhip who's goal was to bite the sh** out of me. We saw our barn owl again that has lived there since I can remember. All is well at the local pig farm! On March 12, we made a family venture up to Brenham and hit my local spot there. Sorry, I took no stills, just video. I did bag another Eastern Coachwhip that appeared to be in his final days, a very large and very aggressive Blotched Water Snake, and a yearling Texas Rat. Weston decided he wanted to hold that snake and promptly was indoctrinated into the world of getting tagged by a snake. He was not too keen on this so he threw the snake into the old mucky pool that had not been used in many, many years. I really cannot remember going to this location, that is very secluded by the way, and never catching any snakes. All snakes were released. We then moved on to Lyons where we hung out with my ol' buddy Frank Wilson and his wife. We were going to head to College Station after that, but we were having such a good time kickin' back, we never made it. Presently I am putting many of my colubrids together to do the nasty, so I can be a pappa again around July and August. I am working with the Pie-bald Ball pythons now and am waiting for the first clutch of eggs to hatch around the 1st of May. I am also expecting many Corns, some Alterna, Diamond Pythons, Mandarin Rats, possibly some Emerald Green Tree Boas and Dumerils. Until next update, happy herping! Wayne Howell First
